The LuxRender community team is pleased to announce the release of LuxRender version 0.5, an open source physically based render engine.
This is the first significant release on the road towards version 1.0, and has a large number of new features and major rewrites.

This little plug-in will give 3DS Max support for VTF textures, thus removing the previous need to convert them to TGA. Converts all textures to RGB format and includes alpha channel. Archive contains version for 3DS Max 6 to 2009 32-bit and 64-bit.

Digieffects, a developer of popular visual effects software plugins today announced that it has shipped Simulate: Illuma, a plugin package offering a specialized collection of effects plugins for creating light and glow effects.
Simulate: Illuma includes the following effects:
Halo: An easy to use bloom/blur effect with color channel control.
Lightracer: Enhances visible light sources, particularly in dark settings as well as providing options for creating unique image looks.
Radiance: The stuff of dream sequences...gentle glow with a versatile set of tools including intensity and threshold for each individual color channel.
Photogust: Fast and effective point emanation blurs.
Luminus: Just the right glow is easy to achieve with lots of control including multiple effect blend modes.

The aim was to create a rig that was as easy to animate as possible but still give as much control as possible. For the amount of control you have, this is probably the easiest rig to animate with in 3ds max.
Rig features: full IK/FK blending on the arms and legs simple yet extremely versatile spine and head setups, squash and stretch parameters on all parts of the body, curved limb parameters, twisting and volume preserving bones on all limbs, soft IK extensions on all limbs to reduce popping, IK/FK snappping tools, auto-hiding IK/FK limb controls, finger controls with preset poses, character pipeline tools for adding extra objects, ...

EON Raptor is a 3ds max plug-in that enables you to display and interact 3ds max content in real-time with intuitive controls. Simple interactive behaviors can also be authored rapidly without leaving 3ds max.

gw:Ivy is an Ivy generator plugin for 3ds Max developed by Guruware. Ivy's are designed to grow in scenes with real-world scale and growing Ivy is quite a breeze, you just have to plant an IvyRoot and hit the "Grow" button to watch it growing in your view port.
Hit the button again to stop the growth. A Multi/Sub-Object Material is already assigned for mapping your ivy easily and you can even generate the grow-animation easily by specifying key frame for the ivy age. gw:Ivy generator plugin for 3dsMax comes with various handy parameter control options, using which you can easily create and control the looks of ivy. If the ivy isn't growing the way you want, you can stop growing any time, adjust age and/or grow-prams and start growing again.

Crosswalk is a Softimage initiative to help transfer XSI content in and out of 3ds Max and Maya pipelines using the latest dotXSI, COLLADA, and FBX standards.
The Crosswalk components in XSI 6 have now been packaged as a standalone setup, complete with an installer that can automatically detect existing installations of 3ds Max, Maya, Face Robot and XSI, and install the appropriate plugins.
