Welcome to Issue 031! Well, we’re officially halfway through 2008 now, and seriously questioning where the time goes these days as we get stuck into the serious work on your August issue already! So before we wake up to Christmas bells ringing in the morning, let me quickly mention some of this month’s highlights so you can get stuck in!

Hangar No. 5 is an action-packed short film featuring Talan Torriero from Laguna Beach and Charity Shea from The Best Years. Produced by Northwestern University undergraduate students, Hangar No. 5 was shot during October 2007 around the Chicagoland area. The film will premier in June 2008.
"Two treasure-hunting teens sneak into an abandoned military base looking for a rumored gold cache. Once inside, they accidentally activate a top secret relic of the Cold War - a huge mobile weapons system bent on protecting the base from all intruders. Cut off from every exit, the pair must fight to survive." |

FBX plug-ins are included with Autodesk Maya software and Autodesk 3ds Max software, providing high-levels of interoperability between these packages and with Autodesk MotionBuilder software, which supports FBX natively. Also available is the FBX plug-in for QuickTime, a component plug-in for Apple QuickTime that lets you play back and interact with 3D files from any major 3D application inside QuickTime.

Pixie is an open source RenderMan renderer for generating photorealistic images. You can compile Pixie on Windows (using Visual Studio 2005), Linux and on OSX (using XCode or unix style configure script).

The LuxRender community team is pleased to announce the release of LuxRender version 0.5, an open source physically based render engine.
This is the first significant release on the road towards version 1.0, and has a large number of new features and major rewrites.
